Held annually in different cites around the world, this important event brings together the humans who study and make sense of our digital lives. AOIR membership - themselves a passionate community - have given online community professionals a rich body of scholarship to inform our practices.

The 2019 theme was TRUST IN THE SYSTEM, with topics like online community governance, platform governance, content moderation, hate speech and online harassment, indigenous social media, social capital and more under the microscope.

A week-long, AOIR 2019 was an incredibly rewarding and inspiring event, where ACM co-founder Venessa Paech, representing our network, was able to proactively explore future research collaborations and introduce more people to the work of professional online community managers.

A highlight of proceedings was a conference on content moderation and platform governance (pictured below), where leading researchers (such as Tarleton Gillespie and Sarah T. Roberts) focused on these areas explored key challenges and possible solutions. ACM was an active contributor to the conversation, adding contextual industry perspectives.
